Bwaananaabekwe, which translates to "mermaid" and Gikinooamaagewin(an) translate to knowledge(s) in the Anishinaabe Language, is a symbol of our vision for language revitalization and cultural heritage. The Anishinaabe, also known as Ojibwe or Chippewa, are Indigenous peoples in North America with a rich cultural heritage. Traditional practices and craftsmanship, including the use of animal fur for blankets, are significant aspects of their cultural identity.
Rabbit fur blankets were crafted by the Anishinaabe as part of their traditional material culture. Animal hides, including rabbit fur, were valued for their warmth and durability. The process of making these blankets involved a combination of hunting, tanning, and skilled craftsmanship.
